Manufacturing plant in Crissier
B. Braun is a leading health care provider in the fields of anesthesia, intensive care, cardiology, extracorporeal blood treatment and surgery, offering a wide range of products and services to hospitals, medical practitioners and the home care sector worldwide. 40,000 employees in over 50 countries generate a revenue of more than EUR 4 billion, making B. Braun a global player within the industry. The Swiss town of Crissier became B. Braun’s central manufacturing hub for compounding bags used for artificial nutrition. About 350 employees produce 12 million units per year, which are then shipped to the new LIFE Nutrition plant at Melsungen in Germany for filling.
B. Braun chose io-consultants as the lead consultant for the new building worth EUR 37.5 million. In close cooperation with the client, io-consultants developed a concept study and the ensuing master plan. The company was also responsible for drafting the concept of the building, determining all material flows and hygienic zones, and evaluating alternative implementation models. These services paved the way for B. Braun to make a well-informed decision under consideration of future developments and efficiency needs. Full compliance with all applicable GMP guidelines was also of key importance.
The new manufacturing plant adds an additional space of 4,000 sqm to the already existing facilities. The concept is flexible and the building can be extended by up to two more levels as and when required. Architectural efficiency was achieved by using prefabricated modular building panels, steel constructions and precast ceilings. Construction costs were kept to a minimum thanks to io-consultants’ efficient planning and project implementation procedures. The close cooperation between the partners combined with several decades of professional experience in the realisation of major investment projects secured the success of this project.
Market leading expertise, targeted use of all synergies and short, efficient decision-making processes characterised this successful cooperation and helped to complete the project within the available budget and time to the utmost satisfaction of the client.
