Production planning par excellence
BSH Bosch & Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH was founded in 1967 by Robert Bosch GmbH and Siemens AG. Within three decades, BSH developed into a worldwide corporation and global player on the electrical home appliances market. Innovative talent, a broad knowledge base and a wealth of experience have resulted in home appliances that set industry standards. Today, BSH is the market leader in Europe and one of the three key international manufacturers of white goods.
Hausgerätewerk Nauen GmbH is a 100% subsidiary of BSH and the European manufacturing site for laundry care appliances. To secure the company’s international competitiveness, a completely new production and logistics concept was needed requiring the reorganisation of all structures and processes. io consultants’ task was to develop the concepts for the facility’s structure, its production and logistics, and to design the layout and realise the entire plant in close cooperation with BSH. The new production site for dryers and top loading washing machines was then established in Nauen, just under an hour west of Berlin. The two production halls mirror each other and use a common delivery zone. Clear structures have simplified production and increased productivity by 30%.
Assembly trays, for instance, can be scheduled individually and moved through the assembly groups as needed. Materials are supplied via an electric monorail system. Inventory stocks have been cut by half, thanks to computer-aided systems, advanced components and improved proximity to the suppliers.
In 1997, BSH received the German Logistics Award for the entire logistics concept.
The production concept and manufacturing layout have been synchronised, and the “group work” system was put to practise in the manufacturing process. As such, responsibilities can be delegated. Flexible working hour models accommodate seasonal sales fluctuations and have already led to a 31% increase in staff productivity.
