Hella Leuchten-Systeme GmbH is a subsidiary of the international automotive supplier Hella KGaA Hueck & Co. With its 25,000 employees and more than 70 production facilities worldwide, the parent company counts among the 100 biggest German industrial companies. The annual turnover amounts to 3.9 billion euros. Its core business is the development and production of components and systems for lighting technologies and electronics.
The Hella product range is characterised by frequent design changes in the automobile industry. Short production cycles and significantly increased complexity of parts are the hallmarks of production. Hella's site in Paderborn is regarded as a centre of competence: exemplary, transferable processes are called for. In order to meet the demand for short product lifecycles and the huge rise in parts complexity in its rear lamp production, the Paderborn start-up production plant was to be transformed from line to island production. Efficient, flexible solutions had to be found for the supply processes.
io-consultants' task was to conceptualize a smooth and reliable material supply scheme and to set-up the material flow from goods receipt right up to the point of use. Implementation was supported all the way through to specific training on the shop floor level. The assembly supply redesigned in keeping with lean principles works with efficient, streamline processes and is flexibly adaptable to a changing production spectrum. Cross-functional knowledge and support through to successful implementation in ongoing operation allowed rapid use of the innovations developed.
