Automated small parts warehouse in the logistics centre
Founded in 1937, KARL MAYER Textilmaschinenfabrik GmbH has grown into a global market leader in warp knitting machinery, with branches in 88 countries. The company is also a driving force in warp preparation for warp knitting and weaving. Warp-knitted fabrics are used for swim- and sportswear, curtains and lace products, shoes, babies’ nappies, and even in shipbuilding and for medical purposes.
Being “close to customers around the world” is a key aspiration at KARL MAYER. It takes a very high awareness for quality and service to survive in global markets, and this needed to be reflected in the new central logistics centre. In the course of a factory structure planning project at the headquarters in Obertshausen it was therefore decided to consolidate the decentralised warehouse structure into one logistics site and in perfect alignment with the company’s operations.
io-consultants was commissioned to submit a selection of concepts for the centralisation, to deliver reliable decision criteria, and to then lead the project through to implementation. Individual services included the detailed planning of the logistics systems, conversion of the existing facilities, and provision of the technical specifications for SAP LES. The existing hall on the premises was specifically adapted to the new requirements and now serves as an effective central logistics centre. With io-consultants’ continuous support from the concept phase through to implementation, the project was completed right on target.
