System planning, implementation management
MAN Truck & Bus AG, based in Munich, is the largest company of the MAN Group and is a leading supplier to the international automotive industry. In addition to MAN-branded trucks and buses the range of products also includes NEOPLAN buses. In Germany, production takes place at four sites: in Munich, Nuremberg, Salzgitter and Plauen. More than 100,000 vehicles were sold worldwide in 2008, generating € 10.6 billion in revenue.
Project challenges
Steady growth, increasing stock costs and energy deficiencies during transport resulted in the consideration to restructure the world-wide spare parts distribution. To continuously improve customer proximity, the world-wide service network shall be further expanded and the supply chain optimised. The level of service needs to be increased, handling quality increased, faults to be reduced.
io-consultants' task was to develop a future-oriented concept for the logistics network to bring about a sustainable reduction in costs. Taking all existing regional ware-houses into consideration, the most suitable location was determined and the construction of the Logistics Centre in Salzgitter recommended. io-consultants planned the expansion and supported MAN throughout the implementation phase.
