New Strategy for Production and Logistics
WALA Heilmittel GmbH, located in Bad Boll near Stuttgart, develops, manufactures and sells WALA Medicines and the Dr. Hauschka Skin Care and Dr. Hauschka Med brands. The products are exported to more than 40 countries. WALA has been a foundation-owned company since 1986 and currently employs around 800 staff.
In the face of continuous strong growth and to secure the company's future, WALA invited io consultants to help them devise a modular project and investment plan for developments reaching until 2023. The two companies jointly drafted individual measures for production, logistics, IT, and supporting functions, based on the evaluations of the bottlenecks and optimisation measures. Both sterile and non-sterile production facilities will be aligned to the company's continuous growth while at the same time considering economic and GMP requirements. Part of the new production facilities will be moved to spaces currently occupied by logistics, which will be consolidated and relocated to a new sales and logistics hub with pallet and container conveying systems. Purchasing, production and distribution logistics will be facilitated by tailored SAP processes. To this purpose, WALA will migrate from the current warehouse management system SAP LES to SAP EWM.
WALA is currently implementing the agreed measures in successive stages in cooperation with the io-consultants specialists for pharma planning, logistics planning, IT consulting, and integrated building design. All project management services will also be provided by io consultants.
io-consultants was commissioned to evaluate WALA's site in the south German town of Bad Boll, reveal possible bottlenecks in production, logistics and IT, and develop solution scenarios for infrastructure improvements. WALA simultaneously initiated a comprehensive process optimisation scheme to foster future growth.
