Dr. Jens Ludwig becomes visiting lecturer at the Institute of Materials Handling and Logistics Systems
Heidelberg - 10.5.2019
Following the successful cooperation between the Institute of Materials Handling and Logistics Systems (IFL) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and io-consultants in the past, the next step in the expansion of the cooperation has now been taken: The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is giving a teaching assignment for the lecture "Storage and Distribution Systems" to Dr. Jens Ludwig, Senior Consultant at io-consultants, starting in the summer semester of 2019.
Dr. Jens Ludwig received his doctorate at KIT in the field of industrial production and has been working for io-consultants in the field of logistics planning since 2012. As part of his planning and consulting activities, he accompanied projects with a high degree of automation from concept planning to implementation.
The cooperation between the IFL (http://www.ifl.kit.edu/english/index.php) and io-consultants has already existed for several years in the form of excursions, practice-oriented case studies and the lecture "Warehouse and Distribution Systems" (http://www.ifl.kit.edu/Vorlesungen_312.php), which will take place in the summer semester.
In this practical lecture the theoretical and practical basics for the design and analysis of distribution centres are taught. This ranges from describing the basic areas of a warehouse and the warehouse technology used, through the selection and evaluation of technology and strategies, to planning warehouses yourself in group work. Examples from the various planning projects of io-consultants help to present the theoretical learning contents in a vivid way.
"The aim is to combine theoretical scientific content with practical experience in order to provide students with a realistic insight into the daily work of a logistics planner," says Prof. Kai Furmans, pleased with the acceptance of the lecture.
"The continuous expansion of the cooperation between IFL and io-consultants is a very important concern for us", emphasises Rainer Diez, member of the management board / partner. "We are already looking forward to the key note from Prof. Furmans at our theme day in Heidelberg in September."
