Ground-breaking ceremony for state-of-the-art logistics centre for Franke

Heidelberg - 17.8.2017

On Wednesday, 16 August 2017, the Franke Group celebrated the ground-breaking ceremony for its warehouse in Bad Säckingen close to the Swiss border. The Franke Group is expanding and investing around 25 million Euros for the extension of the existing warehouse. The company is planning a fully automated state-of-the-art high-bay for its Franke Kitchen Systems and Franke Water Systems divisions, and io-consultants is acting as lead consultant, supporting the project with a team of logistics planners and architects.

“The automated pallet high-bay warehouse and the reorganisation of the picking processes and dispatching will ensure considerably more efficient and flexible material flows, resulting in faster customer deliveries,” says Dietmar Berger, partner at io consultants. Construction work began in early 2017 and standard operations are scheduled for the end of 2018. The new logistics hub will also serve as a European central warehouse for the two divisions.

Franke’s 59,000 sqm site will accommodate a 31-metre tall high-bay warehouse directly connected to the incoming goods area by eight loading ramps. There will be room for around 25,000 pallets on 135,000 sqm of space spread over 12 levels. A conveyor bridge will transport goods via the production hall to the new packing and dispatching area.

“We began the concept planning phase with io consultants back in 2016 and looked into a variety of different designs at the existing site in Bad Säckingen. We were so convinced by the overall concept and the company’s professionalism that we decided to appoint io consultants as lead consultant and to be in charge of the architecture, logistics planning and implementation,” says Alexander Geisenhainer, Head of Logistics Distribution & Senior Global Project Manager Supply Chain, Franke Group Operations.
