Logistics above the clouds

io-consultants has carried out a material flow analysis for Gebr. Heinemann, one of the leading international wholesalers for consumer goods in the travel market, in conjunction with a technical retrofit concept for the company’s highly automated logistics centre in Hamburg-Allermöhe. Heinemann had requested the analysis on account of company growth and anticipated business model changes (B2C), and also in preparation for the company’s new customer programme that allows airline passengers to have their orders sent directly home or made available for collection from a local Heinemann shop. This new scheme requires permanent goods availability to cater for quantities ranging from single products to bulk orders.
“We found the ideal partner in io-consultants. Their expertise is impressive and their specifically designed tool delivered results that convinced us completely,” says Marco Rebohm, logistics manager at Heinemann.
Adrian Siegler, partner at io-consultants, goes on to explain: “We developed a customised material flow tool, which on the one hand provides scenarios on the long-term prospects of the logistics centre and, on the other, enables maximum responsiveness in short-term planning, for instance in reaction to capacity peaks. It can also be used to examine different scenarios with configurable assumptions on growth or changing order structures.” The tool has already helped to estimate the requirements and potential intralogistical measures needed to achieve the predicted growth and ensuing increased flow of goods over the next 15 years.
