io-consultants offers students insights into modern logistics centres and holds a case study workshop

Heidelberg - 28.11.2017

io-consultants once again organised two student field trips last week. The first took place on Monday, 20 November 2017, when 25 students from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) went to BMW in Dingolfing, and the second on Friday, 24 November 2017, with 30 Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) students visiting HUGO BOSS in Filderstadt.

The excursions were arranged in cooperation with KIT’s Institute for Material Handling and Logistics (IFL) as part of the lecture series “Material flow in logistics systems” and with TUM’s Institute for Materials Handling, Material Flow & Logistics as part of its “Planning technical logistics systems” seminar. Since the opening of its Munich office in June 2017, io consultants has been extending its university cooperations in Bavaria.

At BMW in Dingolfing, the students visited Plant 2.7 at the Dynamics Centre for a demonstration of the “Spare Parts Centre (ZTA)”, a project realised in cooperation with io consultants who has been supporting the car manufacturer since the beginning of the first concept studies.

The tour and project presentation for the second group at HUGO BOSS in Filderstadt introduced the students to the fashion company’s new distribution centre, which was implemented under io-consultants’ supervision and project management.

Another interesting event for a further group of TU Munich logistics students was a workshop that addressed an io consultants case study on warehouse planning, giving them detailed insights into the everyday work of consultants and planners.

Our special thanks go to BMW and HUGO BOSS for these magnificent opportunities and for the invaluable impressions the students could take home with them.
