io-consultants plans new automotive production site for REHAU
Heidelberg - 3.12.2018
On 14 September, polymer specialist REHAU laid the foundation stone for a new site in Ujhartyan (Hungary), around 45 kilometres south of Budapest. REHAU is investing a nine-figure sum in this production plant for automobile components. The consulting and planning company io-consultants is acting as lead consultant with an interdisciplinary team of project managers, factory planners and architects to support the project from concept design through to production ramp-up.
“The overall concept for processes and buildings at the new location was designed to enable flexibility and expandability and, above all, short routes for the movement of goods. There will also be an automatic small parts warehouse as a buffer to ensure efficient supplies to just-in-sequence assembly,” explains Dr. Christian Barysch, partner and head of Factory Design at io-consultants.
Construction work for the plant, which will include an administration building, spacious production and assembly areas, and a state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly paint shop, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019. The paint shop will use injection moulding technology to manufacture and paint exterior auto parts (such as bumpers and spoilers) for renowned car manufacturers.
The entire site spans approx. 400,000 square metres, with a gross floor area of about 75,000 square metres. The production and logistics building will be connected to the administration building by a bridge. A central traffic yard will serve as a hub for plant traffic.
“The decision to build a new plant in Hungary is part of REHAU’s international growth strategy,” explains Markus Grundmann, CEO of REHAU Automotive. “With this newbuild, which has been designed to meet the latest economic and environmental standards, the company is setting the course for further progress as a premium supplier for the automobile industry,” Grundmann continues. REHAU plans to employ around 700 people in Ujhartyan in due course.
The REHAU Group specialises in polymers and has an annual turnover of more than 3.5 billion euros. It is an independent and stable company in family ownership, employing more than 20,000 people at over 170 locations around the world. About 12,000 employees work in Europe; 8,000 of them in Germany alone. REHAU manufactures products for construction, automotives, and other industry sectors. The company has been making plastic products lighter, easier-to-use, safer and more efficient, and supplying innovative products to countries around the world for over 70 years.
